Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) was a world-renowned Danish modernist architect who designed numerous buildings in Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Born and raised in Copenhagen, Jacobsen graduated in Architecture from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. After graduating in 1927, he got his first job in the office of the Copenhagen municipal architect and just two years later opened his own studio.

Throughout his life, Arne Jacobsen received several prestigious awards for projects such as the National Bank of Copenhagen (1971), the SAS Royal Hotel & Terminal, Copenhagen (1960), and St. Catherine's College in Oxford, UK (1963). It is said that his fear of flying hindered his potential to exert influence in American architectural circles.
